Sunday Stash December 31, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in this week.

When I rearranged the sewing room and emptied the drawers, I found clothing fabric I bought before I had my colors done that I know I’ll never use. I also found leftovers from long-ago projects. It all went in the donation pile.

There are more fabrics that need to move on once I figure out where they can be best used.

Thanks to everyone who has linked up this year and commented on the blog. Sometimes I get way behind reading your comments and posts, but eventually I catch up. Some of you have ...

No change in the numbers.

I started quilting Remember Me this week. I plan to quilt each block differently but use the same quilting design in all the sashing. I haven’t figured out what design that will be yet.

Many of the fabrics in the top are so busy they hide the quilting.

I’m not finished with the dresden block, just still working out what to quilt.

No change in the numbers.

The sum of all my sewing was one Traffic Jam block.

I did do some cleaning and purging to make room to start working on this quilt.

And this quilt.

I’m struggling to figure out where I left off with this one. It has several more branches than it did in this picture, and has been waiting patiently for me since March.

No change in the numbers.

For various reasons, I did not get my OMG/Short List posted this week before the linky closed. I’m posting a shortened version here.

Project 1 (stitching): Gather & Give Thanks, pattern by Diane Arthurs of Imaginating. It’s coming along.

Project 2 (Original): The nameless tree quilt. It’s time to get back to it.

Project 3 (charity): Traffic Jam quilt, pattern by Pat Sloan. I’m sewing a block here and there while working on other projects.

Project 4 (UFO): Remember Me, a member quilt from a group I belonged to many years ...

No change in the numbers this week.

I have a couple things going in the sewing room. I started piecing more Traffic Jam blocks. This is block #11.

I also blocked an old needlepoint piece I made as a child. I’m sure it hung framed at my parent’s house, but I found it in a drawer with no frame. It was too distorted to try to frame it without blocking.

Both projects came from the piles on the bed of shame.

Midweek: Hourglass finish, OMG completed, and the stash report from With Strings Attached

Arabic Hourglass is finished.  I did rip out and re-sew the misturned blocks. However, as I basted it I found a dark block next to a dark block.  I left that one alone.

I pieced the left over blocks into the back.

I started and finished three other quilts this month.  The baby quilt (on the left) was my One Monthly Goal. The others just happened!

BTW, the baby arrived November 16.  His mother had some complications but both she and the baby are doing well.  The postponed shower will instead be a welcome party sometime in the new year ...

No fabric in this week. I finished Love Inspired for a little fabric out.

We spent yesterday with family entertaining the children with activities like this.

Fun and laughter all around with a chance to enjoy my great-niece.

On the creative side, the sewing room is in that place where I finished one project and haven’t started the next one. There are several waiting in the queue and a couple in process scattered around. I’ll see what speaks to me the loudest when I get in there today.

No change in the numbers, a miracle considering all the opportunities I had to buy fabric this week.

I had a Guild meeting yesterday and the free table was bursting with books and magazines. There was also a buy a bin for $1 sale. This is what I brought home, although I often look at the magazines and take them back. I only pulled out a couple things for a closer look.

The quilt pattern came from the thrift shop. I took a chance because the package was taped shut, but it looks like I scored the entire pattern. It ...

I went to The Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Novi, Michigan yesterday. The exhibits were interesting and the vendors varied from the usual quilt show crowd. Many types of vendors were missing though. Not one thread company had a booth.

I didn’t plan to buy anything, even though many vendors had beautiful fabric at deep discount prices. The Quilts of Valor booth got me though. Because they want their quilts to have a patriotic feel, they were selling fabric that didn’t fit colorwise for $1 a bundle/cut. I picked up the check and the neutral bundle first ...

No change in the numbers.

I had big plans to spend a lot of time in the sewing room this week, and it didn’t happen. I’m not sure why it didn’t happen……perhaps a combination of several things. I’m hoping the extra hour today will help remedy that.

No picture worthy progress happened since my Short List post a few days ago. The only thing I did was cut some fabric.

Midweek: stash report for October, and November projects from With Strings Attached

Rabbit, rabbit!

Here is the explanation of this first-day-of-the-month good luck charm. I first read about it in Trixie Belden and the Black Jacket Mystery, circa 1963 but only in recent years do I remember to say it.

It was a chilly Halloween with a 1" snowfall that frosted the pumpkins and the chrysanthemum. We had 20 trick-or-treaters.  We gave out mini-packs of fruit snacks (those gummy things) and little boxes of raisins because I didn't want to be tempted by left over chocolate.

I had a productive quilting month, though I didn't work on my OMGs (placemats ...

No change in the numbers.

I am heavy into working on the next challenge piece, which I think of as “Dot”. A creative space is a messy space.

I had hoped to be a little further along by now. Maybe this week I’ll gain some ground.

It’s not looking good to hit positive numbers this year. For all the time these challenge quilts take, they don’t use much fabric.

No change in the numbers.

I finished my sister’s scarf, which doesn’t help the fabric numbers but has me working on one less project.

I also reworked the challenge design, keeping the basic idea but changing the format. The background fabric didn’t survive the change. It will find its way into another project.

No change in the numbers, although I did finish two things.

The first finish was my great nephew’s afghan.

It was crocheted with Lion Brand yarn Mandala Ombre, maybe color 208AL. The label says no color number, but lists that number. I don’t believe there was a pattern for this. I just copied what my sister had done before she passed.

Next I framed Words of Joy Tree with a frame I picked up at Goodwill several years ago. It wasn’t my local store, might have been the one in Columbus. I’m super proud that I ...

Weekly update: wrapping up September, part 2 from With Strings Attached

I had a productive month in my studio.  On the left: the Beacon and Autumn Nine-Patch are finished.  The back of the nine-patch is in the center.  The black/white Geese and Goslings and the blue Happy Endings are flimsies.

All three bears (Papa, Mama, Baby) are quilted and bound.
I used three different quilting patterns:  my default swirl, serpentine, and grid.
Despite all this creativity I added more to my stash than I used.
Fabric IN, September:   113-3/4 yards, $335.36.  Average: $2.93/yard.   (Quilt show in Madison + an estate sale.)
Fabric OUT, September:  55-3/4 yards ...

October? How did that happen?

I made two pillowcases for my husband out of the deer fabric I bought in July. I didn’t use it all, but I made a good dent in it. No fabric in this week.

I don’t have specific plans for October yet, but the overall plan is to clear the front row of projects on the bed of shame. The piles contain several items each.

Unclear how many years it would take to finish them all. I probably don’t want to know. I can only clear the bed one project at a ...

No fabric out this week.

I stopped at SewEndipitous in Rock Hill, SC on our travels and bought a panel. It was shop hop week, and the panel was on sale. I thought it would make a cute charity quilt.

They had other fun things I hadn’t seen in the shops back home, but I tried to limit my purchases. My “want to make list” just keeps getting longer.

I attended a quilt show in Lafayette last week and bought some flannel for donation quilts at 2.00 per yard. I was thinking of the trip around the world quilt I made earlier this year. I didn't take any quilt pictures. oh well

I finished the challenge quilt, now named Still Life, for some fabric out. It’s always a relief to get those quilts finished on time.

I won’t get the next challenge until the 26th, which leaves time to do something else. With lots going on between now and then, a handful of small projects makes the most sense.

I pulled fabric to make pillowcases. A lot of bedding made its way into the rag bin this year, and we need replacements.

My sister’s quilt needs a label.

I would also like to frame Words of Joy Tree ...
